Social Equities

Building a portfolio that includes investments in companies that make social and/or environmental responsibility part of their business model is increasingly relevant for many Long Wharf clients.

Stocks that make an impact

For those who wish to integrate their ethical values into the investment decision-making process – to affect corporate policies on environmental, employment and product issues – Long Wharf offers further screening of potential equities, including selections from the Domini 400 Social Index. Compiled by the Boston-based social research firm of KLD Research & Analytics, the Domini 400 is a widely recognized index of US companies screened on a variety of social and environmental factors. It excludes companies involved in areas like weapons contracting, alcohol and tobacco production and gambling or firms that have problems in employee relations, product safety and environmental stewardship. This 400 stock core is supplemented by more than two hundred additional socially-screened companies from KLD’s foreign stock universe.

We look for above-average return potential in these equities, which are analyzed for over sixty social criteria in ten major issue areas, and prepare a select list on a weekly basis from which we build and actively manage portfolios for socially and environmentally conscious investors.
